Microshading (Ombré Brows)

What is Microshading?

Microshading is a soft, semi-permanent brow treatment that gives you fuller, more defined eyebrows with a pretty, powdered finish—like softly filled-in brow makeup. It’s perfect if you love a clean, polished look without the daily struggle.

Unlike traditional microblading, which uses a blade to create hair-like strokes, microshading is done using a very tiny needle on a digital machine. This tool gently deposits tiny dots of pigment into the skin using a light, stippling motion to create a smooth, shaded effect that looks natural and lasts.

This technique not only enhances your brows—it helps create balance and symmetry, giving your face a more harmonious and flattering look. It works beautifully for all skin types, especially oily or sensitive skin.

Whether you want a soft, natural enhancement or a more defined brow, microshading is fully customizable to your style. Results typically last 1 to 3 years with proper care and maintenance. Over time, your skin will naturally exfoliate and your body will gradually break down the pigment, causing your brows to fade softly. To maintain your results and prevent early fading, daily SPF is a must—especially with regular sun exposure.

While your new brows will stay beautifully shaped and shaded, don’t forget—your natural brow hairs will still grow! A little routine maintenance like tweezing or waxing will help keep them looking clean, polished, and fresh.

Pre-Care Protocol

All clients are required to Thoroughly read and follow pre-care instructions carefully. Failure to do so can result in refusal of service and forfeiture of your deposit. PRE-CARE WILL ALSO BE AVAILABLE DURING THE BOOKING PROCESS, AND IN THE CONFIRMATION EMAIL OF YOUR APPOINTMENT. Pre-care should start 48 hours before your procedure.

Proper preparation ensures optimal results and a beautifully refined brow experience.

  • Do not work out 24-48 hours before your procedure.

  • NO alcohol or caffeine 48 hours before procedure. There is caffeine in decaf coffee, tea, chocolate and kombucha.

  • Avoid extreme sun and tanning one week prior to your procedure.

  • Do not take Aspirin, Niacin, Vitamin E or Advil/Ibuprofen 48 hours before your procedure.

  • Discontinue use of Retin-A and Retinol products at least 4 weeks prior (and avoid on eyebrow area after procedure).

  • Botox and filler on the forehead, temple, and eye area should be avoided 1 month prior to procedure for those who do not regularly receive injectables.

  • Please do not shape or wax eyebrows at all before procedure. I will shape them during the brow mapping process of your appointment.

  • Please avoid taking things that thin the blood like fish oils, herbals, Vitamin E, Nutritional Shakes (Shakeology, etc), “Hair, Skin, Nail” supplements, Prenatal Vitamins, Advil, Aspirins, and/or Ibuprofen 48 hours prior to your procedure. Tylenol is acceptable.

  • Do not donate plasma in the 7 days prior to procedure.

  • Where possible, try to avoid the following herbs and spices prior to your appointment: Black pepper, Cardamom, any member of the Zingiberaceae (Ginger) family, Cayenne, Cinnamon, Garlic, Horseradish, Mustard.

  • Discontinue use of any brow- or lash-growth serums such as Latisse or RevitaLash, as it can cause sensitivity/effects pigment retention.

  • Botox, AHA products and retinoids should be avoided for 2 weeks prior to the procedure (and avoid on eyebrow area after procedure).

  • No electrolysis for at least 5 days before the procedure.

  • Exfoliating treatments such as microdermabrasion and chemical peels should not be performed within 2 weeks prior to the procedure.

  • Most clients describe the sensation as mild to minimal—more like a light scratch or pressure. A high-quality, topical numbing cream is used during the procedure to keep you as comfortable as possible. Everyone’s pain tolerance is different, but many clients feel relaxed—and some even nap!

Please note: sensitivity can be slightly heightened during your menstrual cycle or if you’re feeling anxious, so we always recommend coming to your appointment well-rested and hydrated.

  • Your initial appointment usually takes about 2.5 to 3 hours. We begin with a detailed consultation and brow mapping, which can take up to an hour depending on how decisive you are with your shape. This step is all about finding the perfect balance and design for your face—I’ll guide you, but I want you to feel 100% confident and comfortable with the shape we choose before we begin. Once you’re happy, we’ll apply numbing and start the shading process.

Your perfecting session (touch-up), booked 6–8 weeks later, is a bit shorter and typically lasts 1.5 to 2 hours.

  • Permanent brows typically last 1 to 3 years, depending on your skin type, lifestyle, and how bold or natural you prefer your brows to be. Oily skin types may fade a bit faster, while drier skin often holds pigment longer. The Ombré shading technique tends to last longer than microblading, as it covers more surface area and heals with a softer fade.

Over time, your body will naturally metabolize the pigment, and your skin will gently exfoliate—causing the brows to fade gradually and beautifully. To keep them looking fresh, a touch-up every 12–18 months is recommended. Daily SPF is also a must—sun exposure can speed up the fading process!

  • Healing is a journey—but don’t worry, it’s a gentle one. In the first few days, your brows may appear darker than expected. This is completely normal! As your skin begins to heal, you might notice some light flaking or scabbing, and the pigment may soften or fade slightly. This is just your skin doing its thing.

Over the next 7–14 days, your brows will settle into a softer, more natural finish. You may experience some patchiness as the skin regenerates, but this will be refined at your perfecting touch-up (booked 6–8 weeks later).

To support the best results, it’s important to follow all aftercare instructions closely and avoid water, sweating, makeup, and sun exposure during the healing period. A customized aftercare kit will be provided at your initial appointment. Trust the process—beautiful brows are on the way!
